Should you take maternity photos?

Maternity photos can be a hot topic, you either love them or you hate them. It only takes one quick glance on Instagram to be flooded with images of gorgeous women basking in all their pregnant glory. I totally understand why some may be put off by them, especially since the modern day maternity photos have taken on a whole new life with the presence of social media images on the likes of Pinterest, Facebook and more.

But to many women (including myself) they’re simply a way to document the magical, exhilarating, emotional time of pregnancy. I chose to take maternity photos because I wanted to capture this unique chapter in my life and be able to show the images to my daughter one day. We chose to go back to the place we got married to make the shoot take on an additional meaning, I absolutely loved the end result and am thrilled with my decision to take maternity photos. Sure, not everyone has the desire (or the means) to hire a photographer, but maternity photos can even be as simple as taking a shot with your phone.

All in all, I’d highly recommend photographing this one-of-a-kind life experience. Sure you may not feel beautiful in the moment, but I’ve found that motherhood has the most humbling effect on vanity. Once you see your little human grow before your eyes you’ll fondly look back on the moments when they were still safely snuggled inside you.
