do this: watch VICE on HBO

Recently, my mom made a comment to me about my blog being superficial. While I agree my blog is definitely more lighthearted in content, that doesn’t mean that all I think about are clothes and shoes. It’s just what I choose to share on the internet. I try to be a well-rounded individual and as a journalist I’m always interested in reading/watching about current events and staying informed.

When my sister told me about a new HBO show called VICE, I was intrigued. The series, featuring documentary-style news reports showcases 30 minute episodes reporting on a wide variety of topics from all around the world. I couldn’t turn off the TV as I watched episode after episode focused on subjects I have never even come remotely close to hearing about on mainstream media. It truly does feel more like “storytelling of lives around the world” as one of the founders states in the video, because at the end of each episode you feel as if you just got a glimpse into the realities these people are facing.

VICE has been around for many years, starting as a magazine before growing into the youth media company it is today. With its no-holds-barred approach, it succeeds at getting the attention of young people and exposing them to information they might not have seen otherwise. Each episode, the hosts don’t just report on the story, they try to live it. They immerse themselves into the piece to give you an honest reflection of the topic they’re covering and the end result is thought-provoking content you won’t soon forget.

I definitely recommend checking out the show or get a glimpse on their YouTube channel and website.
