The must-have ‘mom’ shoe with serious style

I’ve talked a bit about post-baby fashion here and there. Long story short, it hasn’t been easy for me. My style has completely shifted to one focused on function over fashion. But just because I now have to be able to be on-the-go, ready-for-anything mama, doesn’t mean I can’t at least try to look a little nice while doing it. haha.

Admittedly, it took me a long time to feel put together as a mom. I know some moms may get there sooner but it really took me a while to find my groove, so don’t feel bad if you’re like me! Of course, I think looking and feeling put together is very much correlated to the amount of sleep your little one (and in turn, you!) are getting, so take your time, and don’t feel bad about rocking them sweats/leggings combo. I did that for many, many months with zero shame.

However, when I finally felt ready to embrace a bit of the old me, I found that most of my pre-baby clothes just somehow didn’t work. Jeans didn’t fit for about 18 months, outfits I’d worn previously now just seemed inappropriate or impractical, suffice it to say I ended up doing a whole overhaul on my wardrobe.

One of the first things to from my new mom life was uncomfortable shoes. Though I loved the look of heels dearly, I just couldn’t handle them with a baby on my hip. But I also wanted to look stylish, so what were my options?

Enter the mule.

I was soo against this style for so long for some reason. I guess I thought it somehow looked dated?? Well, I’m here to tell you that I couldn’t be more wrong. This style of shoe looks good and is super practical. Easy on and off. You can easily put shoes on while balancing a baby on your hip, diaper bag in hand and scurrying around searching for your car keys (sound familiar anyone?!) They can also easily be dressed up or down. Really I don’t see any negatives! I honestly might not ever wear any other style.

I’ve rounded up a couple of my favorite styles (many of which I own and love) to get you started on your own mule love affair.

1.) Freda Salvador – Soul Lace Up Oxford Mule

2.) Freda Salvador – Keen Mule (The mule that started my love affair! These are so stylish and incredibly comfortable. I wear them all the time!)

3.) Jenni Kayne – Pony Hair Mule

4.) Jenni Kayne – Oiled Leather Mule

5.) Freda Salvador – Keen Mule (I also own these. Couldn’t resist the woven finish and light color for summer!)

1.) Dolce Vita – Elva Studded Mule

2.) BORN – Opal Open Toe Mule (Own these and they are sooo comfortable!)

3.) Dr. Scholl’s – Eden Mule

4.) Sarto by Franco Sarto – Palmer Mule

5.) Free People – At East Loafer Mule

6.) Dolce Vita – Focus Mule (I also have these. Yes I think I might have a slight mule obsession lol. They are also very comfortable with a bit of a heel.)
