A letter to my daughter

In about a week and a half or so, you’ll be gaining a sibling. Your dad and I will be gaining another child and your whole world (our whole world!) is about to shift yet again. But I wanted to take a minute to sit back and reflect on the past 2 years, 2 months and 18 days.

Every day I look at you in amazement and awe and think “I made that?!” This rad tiny human who I’m so incredibly proud to call my daughter. You really are my greatest achievement and with each day that passes, I am more and more proud of the person you’re becoming.

I want to thank you my darling. Thank you for making me a mama and making my heart love in ways I never knew it could. Thank you for making my world a richer, more beautiful place. Thank you for allowing me to see the world through your young eyes. Thank you for teaching me to be more patient, kind and empathetic and for always wanting to bring out the best in myself so I can (hopefully!) lead by good example.

You challenge me and inspire me. You motivate me and yes, even drive me crazy sometimes. But I’m eternally grateful. From the pain of our previous losses you came out as the tiny miracle we never knew we needed. Your energy and your spirit have fulfilled me in a way I truly can’t describe.

I absolutely adore the sweet age you are now. You are talking from the moment you wake up to the moment you go to sleep and I love listening to your stories and trying to understand your worldview. You are sassy and independent but luckily still have a need for those mama cuddles. You’re a fierce negotiator and somehow almost always end up getting what you want. Though it does annoy me sometimes I know that this trait will serve you well in life and I can’t wait to see who you’ll grow up to be.

As the oldest, you’ve been a tester of sorts. Along for the ride as your dad and I figured out this whole parenting gig. But you’ve also gotten all the love and affection that we could give and now darling, that love and affection will be divided between you and your sibling. I know our hearts will simply grow and expand to make room for this new member of our family and you’ll be right there along the way, helping guide and nurture the new addition to our little tribe.

Every morning that I wake up to your sweet voice, no matter how tired, I’m instantly awakened by your pure joy and desire to seize the day. You are endlessly curious and oh so smart (if I do say so myself 😉 ) and it’s been an absolute honor watching you evolve and grow into the hilarious, kind, sweet and spunky little girl that you are. I can’t wait to watch you as a big sister and help guide you and your sibling through this life. I love you forever, darling. ♡ ♡ ♡
